Join the JC Lopez, vice president for student affairs, and Ben Newhouse, associate vice president of student affairs and dean of students and members of the Division of Student Affairs team for light refreshments. This is an informal social gathering for families to get to know some of the professionals who assist with your student’s day-to-day activities outside of the formal classroom.

If the sky is clear, the featured objects will be Saturn and the Ring Nebula. If the sky is cloudy, the presentation will involve a tour and computer demonstrations. Access to the telescope involves several sets of steps but visitors with mobility restrictions can be accommodated with advance notice. Please contact familywknd@grinnell.edu for accommodations.

Registered families and guests of students will receive a complimentary meal. Meal tickets are required for this event must be picked up from the Family Weekend Welcome & Information Table in the Rosenfield Center lobby and presented at the event.

Continue family weekend fun with a high-energy musical showcase! The evening opens with the ������Ƶ College Jazz Ensemble, followed by a performance from the Soul Sensations. Come and enjoy some great music and have fun dancing to some popular songs.

������Ƶ College Jazz Ensemble: In these difficult times, the ������Ƶ Jazz Ensemble has put together a set of love songs. In the songs we’re playing — by Alice Coltrane, Sierra Ferrell, John Coltrane, and Sly and the Family Stone — love, as Martin Luther King Jr. reminds us, isn't mere “sentimentality.” Rather, these artists’ work is grounded in what bell hooks calls a “love ethic.” These love songs point to a higher place, a supreme place, where love, joy, truth, and justice are intertwined; a place within and without that we can discover and build together.

Soul Sensations: Features alum Randy Morgan ’65 alongside current students Bruna Sander Foss ’27 and Noah Tsukuda ’27. Their set will span R&B favorites from the 1970s to today, blending classic soul with contemporary grooves.
