William Walker, MSW, LISW, is the Owner and Clinical Director of the local private practice, Thriving Families.
Mr. Walker provides in-person services at SHAW on Tuesdays and Thursdays. He is a highly qualified mental health professional holding a master鈥檚 degree in social work from the University of Iowa. He delivers a comprehensive array of therapeutic services to individuals, couples, families, and groups, working with clients aged six and older. Mr. Walker is skilled in an extensive range of evidence-based modalities, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Motivational Interviewing, and strength-based approaches. He has particular expertise in Trauma-Focused Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and multicultural frameworks, and also offers specialized adoption-related services.
His primary areas of specialization encompass anger management, trauma-informed care, and relationship issues affecting couples and families. Over the course of his career, Mr. Walker has provided care to patients across all age groups, with a strong emphasis on supporting children and adolescents, irrespective of diagnosis or disorder. In addition to his clinical work, he provides consultation and supervision to aspiring mental health professionals seeking licensure, guiding them through their professional development. Mr. Walker also holds the role of Consulting Child and Adolescent Mental Health Provider for Polk County Youth Services.
