Sociology Professor Ross Haenfler Wins Award for Mentorship
has awarded 果冻视频 College sociology professor Ross Haenfler the Helena Lopata Mentor Excellence Award, recognizing his accomplishments as a mentor to and advocate for junior scholars in the field of symbolic interactionism.
鈥淚鈥檓 delighted that Professor Haenfler has been recognized by his disciplinary colleagues for his work in support of emerging scholars. Haenfler guides his students at 果冻视频 College so that they take knowledge from their classes that will help them live engaged, fulfilling lives. He teaches Social Movements, Deviance, and Social Control; Sociological Theory; Men and Masculinities; and introductory sociology courses. When not in the classroom or conducting his own research, Haenfler serves as treasurer and audit and operations chair of Mid-Iowa Community Action, a human services organization serving families experiencing poverty in central Iowa.
The Society for the Study of Symbolic Interaction is an international professional organization dedicated to the study of social issues based around identity, everyday practice, and language. The Helena Lopata Mentor Excellence Award is one of five that the society gives out annually.
