Nina Kouchi ’22 loved how welcoming and curious the students were when she visited ¹û¶³ÊÓƵ. Her excitement about ¹û¶³ÊÓƵ has only grown as she has traveled across the country for golf, explored the town of ¹û¶³ÊÓƵ, carried out a computer science Mentored Advanced Project, and spent time enjoying Iowa’s natural beauty.
Catherine Stone ’22 came to ¹û¶³ÊÓƵ excited about the small classes, the close relationships with faculty, and the powerful student voice. She quickly became involved in the community and with ¹û¶³ÊÓƵ Concerts. While working her way toward medical school, she has also immersed herself in the environment through ecology courses, and in language and culture through French courses.
¹û¶³ÊÓƵ College has been awarded a $150,000 grant from the William Randolph Hearst Foundations to expand its efforts in recruiting and supporting transfer students from both two- and four-year institutions.
When Sophie Jackson ’22 visited ¹û¶³ÊÓƵ, she was enamored by the diversity, authenticity, and openness of the students she interacted with. Those interactions continued throughout her four years and developed into friendships and relationships that she will continue to value after graduation. She similarly valued her experiences with service, research, advocacy, the Rosenfield Program, internships, externships, study abroad, and getting to know ¹û¶³ÊÓƵ.
Ahon Gooptu’s (’21) passion for theater and care for community took him from Kolkata, India to ¹û¶³ÊÓƵ — and then to London, New York, Seattle, San Francisco, and more! Along the way, he studied Shakespeare, discovered the power of digital storytelling, and completed mentored research projects.
Lex Baumann ’22 was focused on urban colleges until she visited ¹û¶³ÊÓƵ and fell in love. Since arriving, she has job-shadowed a lawyer in Miami, served as a community advisor (CA), changed her major, and much more. Next up: law school applications.
Matas Maksimaitis ’23 engaged in rigorous self-examination and self-discovery at ¹û¶³ÊÓƵ. From his philosophy classes and research to his Wells Fargo internship in North Carolina, he found himself in multiple angles!
MJ Uzzi ’23 fell in love with ¹û¶³ÊÓƵ’s community visiting and beyond, even during pandemic. She engaged with politics, studied abroad in Sweden, and majored in economics!
¹û¶³ÊÓƵ made Andrea Suazo Rivas ’24 feel like an individual and not just a number. She was also attracted to ¹û¶³ÊÓƵ’s strong international community.
Your campus and classroom experience is going to challenge you to grow and expand your understanding of the world. But there is much that can be learned off campus, too.
Students experience random acts of kindness around the town here, and there are myriad opportunities to participate and find a seat at the table as active and engaged citizens.
Many of your fellow students become personally involved in a community, social, or educational endeavor off campus, which strengthens their college experience. I hope you will be part of this movement.

Many students come from very different backgrounds than my own, and it has been fascinating to hear about their lives and share about mine with them. Despite our differences, I’m always able to find wonderful similarities.

I am an active member in the ¹û¶³ÊÓƵ community. I have found my passion for social justice and being an advocate for people in need. During my four years, I have felt so much support and love, which have helped me blossom into the person I am today.
I am taking every opportunity that I have been granted. I am on the football team and on my way toward a double major and a concentration. I have completed a MAP [Mentored Advanced Project] and look forward to future internships made possible by ¹û¶³ÊÓƵ. I would otherwise not be able to afford this education.
